Alexander Mcqueen bird dress

As silent as a falling feather...

These are my photograms that I developed in the dark room. They are not perfect as you have to use a single piece of photographic paper then put your objects on top of the paper (in my case feathers) then you have to expose the paper to light for around 30 seconds or more before developing the prints in the chemicals, the end result is a hit or miss.
I think they are quite beautiful and etheral...

Subverted Objects 2: my shrunken apple heads

Friday, 2 December 2011

These were made as part of my art and design brief:subverted objects at college. I was looking to do something abit unusual when I came across apple heads on the internet. Basically all you do is carve a 3D face into a raw  apple then you bake it in the oven for say 15 minutes and it comes out like this. I made a male and a female. The female has artificial hair and I used paint as make-up. They lasted for 3 days then went mouldy :(

Subverted Objects 1: 'shroom' inspired headpiece

I made this when I was at college last year studying art and design. I had to make a subverted object. (subvert: to change the meaning of something.) Im obsessed with horror films and everything strange and weird, so I started to research Paddy Breathnack's film 'SHROOMS.' I liked the idea of magic mushrooms, my inspiration and idea for this was the black tipped mushrooms. These mushrooms look like they have eyes on the end of them. When out for a walk I came across an oak tree and found the empty shells where the acorns used to be. I used these and google eyes to create this eerie 'shroom' inspired headpiece.

Alice in Underland: Lovers Tryst

Wednesday, 30 November 2011

'And so it was she got tangled in lovers tryst...'

These photos are from my final major project that I did at college. They were inspired by 'Lewis Carrolls' Alices Adventures in Wonderland. I added a dark and eerie element to it. The vines that are wrapped around the body represent entanglement, rapture and love. As the head is not visible she has no identity. Her skin pale as if dead, lifeless....

Be sure to check out the link, it is a short clip of Něco z Alenky, which means "Something from Alice" by Czech film director 'Jan Švankmajer'. It is a very weird but amusing film.
