It's all about the hair (accessories)

Sunday, 15 April 2012

Fun, thrills and flirts..... that's what summer should be about, and what better way to do that than with gorgeously girlie hair. This S/S I will be adorning my mane with bows, feathers, flowers, hearts and bambi :) Don't stop at one accessory either, the more adornment the better.
Indian feather style headbands, OTT flower clips, large silk scarves tied in to a bow there's something for everyone, combine feathers with peasant plaits for festival chic, bows with pigtails for geek-chic and flowers with a topknot for chilled out summer chic.
Just remember this season...it's all about the hair (accessories!!!)

'Sexy Chicago'

So this may have been back in January but hey i'm reviewing it now. As you can tell I went to see Chicago at the Garrick theatre near Leicester Square, London. Since watching Chicago on dvd (the one with Catherine-Zeta-Jones, Renee Zellweger and Richard Gere) awhile back ive been itching to take a trip to see this, especially looking forward to the 'Cell Block Tango, he had it coming!!'
It was very exciting, I was in the upper circle, which was near the back but the Garrick is a very intimate theatre so I had a very good view where I was sitting. The styling was very good, sexy fishnets and leather bras for the ladies and likewise the men wore sheer black shirts open or fishnet vests ;) Like I said in a previous post about men with tophats and canes, oi oi!! These had the added bonus of tap dancing and jazz hands. It was a mix of cabaret, burlesque, jazz and musical theatre. So good, a must see!! :)

'Monochrome Mannequins'

Sunday, 5 February 2012

So the other week I was shopping in 'Beyond Retro Soho' and they had this amazing line-up of eerie 1920's esque monochrome mannequins along the entrance and stairways. The mannequins were pasty white with black lips and cutout eyes. Props included large vintage mirrors and old school pocketwatches. If ever there was one, it felt like I had walked onto the set of a 1920's silent supernatural thriller!!
The staff also dressed the part, the men looked very handsome in their skinny jeans, long coats and tophats. A dress code all men should adhere to (add a cane, a cigar and shoulder length hair and we have the perfect gentleman)!! :D
A lovely selection of second hand/vintage clothes in their right now, I bought an amazing black jumpsuit (way better than any in Topshop) and a bargain at £20!!

My oufit today: 60s/Pierre Cardin

Wednesday, 18 January 2012

Today I was inspired by 'Pierre Cardin' and his use of bright bold colours, clashed together in simple block striped dresses. Heres my take on 60s block colour-

Jumper by H&M
Tights (in mustard) by Red Sun
Leather Brogues (limited edition) by New Look Boutique
Socks from Tesco
Cream leather satchel bag (just seen) by Miss Selfridge

With this outfit I also wore a Navy school style blazer and a fluffy beret for 'french chic' and to keep me warm, as it is cold here in London!!

Check out this Vintage Pierre Cardin blue mongolian goat fur coat!!! :D

'My Current Addiction!!'

Monday, 16 January 2012

Right now I am really addicted to watching live broadcasts from the catwalk shows and backstage. I am loving watching  'Nicola Formachetti' preparing for the 'Thierry Mugler' show in Paris on wednesday. If you don't know Nicola Formachetti is Lady Gagas fashion stylist/designer and Thierry Muglers new Creative Art Director. Be sure to tune in, broadcasts are usually aired via Paris time. One to watch!! Apparently I have two mutual friends with him on facebook :D

Fashion Styling by students on the Fashion Design, Styling and Promotion degree @ Middlesex University

Thursday, 12 January 2012

Today at university my group had a styling session. We had a variety of clothes that we could work with and jumble up to create unique styles. This enabled us to think on our feet and put clothes together that you would otherwise not think to put together and to use clothing in other ways than the way intended. We were put in sub-groups and had to create 3 looks each, our third being based around 'emotions.' Enjoy!!

Prom Style
My groups styling on the right. Look: 80s Mermaid
Back of my groups look, we added a subtle bustle
Influences here of Vivienne Westwood and punk
Cat Lady & the 'un'-silhouette
Ethnic influence: African tribe and Indian elegance
Manchester style
Warrier from the East: another one of my groups styling
Highland Rape: Influences of Alexander McQueen
Poirot style
Emotion: Happy
Emotion: Unsure

Emotion: Depressed

Emotion: Grief. Our groups styling here. Based around a women who has been widowed on the day of her wedding, her fiance being killed in a car crash on the way to the church. If fully styled in a shoot we would have her in a grotty room with mascara running down her cheeks and barefoot.
